Cottage Garden Charm
I love it when a someone says, ” You should see my friend’s garden!” I never pass up an opportunity when that happens. So, when my friend Cathy mentioned the roses and peonies in her friend Judy’s garden, I begged to go see it….and I’m so glad I did!
Tiny, charming and overflowing with colorful blooms and blossoms, this little garden has it all! Standing there as I first arrived I tried to figure out what it was that made me smile and feel so happy just looking at it. Was it the sparkling white fence with roses peeking through? Or maybe the roses tumbling over one another right beside the full, robust peonies? Could it be the green lawn surrounded by closely packed flowers or the little white garden seats? I think perhaps it was the way it was all put together that made it so charming.
The roses lining the fence ranged from small, low bushes that grew through the slats, to large clusters in various degrees of bloom.
The peonies were what I originally came to see. I have tried and failed to grow them while this gardener said she just , “stuck them in the ground”! (She also told me they have them at Costco right now so I may have to try again!) Hers get morning sun and mostly afternoon shade which she says seems to make them happy.
The fuzzy leaves and delicate flowers of the borage were a nice companion for the roses …
The Oak Leaf Hydrangea was beautiful…
The well arranged container at the front door is a lovely way to welcome guests….
And the “Love in a Mist” along the sidewalk had a whimsy all it’s own!
The vinyl fence is crisp and clean and really enhances the whole look…I think I see one in my future! There was one other thing that made the garden special and it was this little guy….Isn’t that look irresistible! Hope you enjoyed this garden as much as I did! Nothing like a little inspiration to get a gardener going in the spring!
