Burpee Seeds, A wealth of information!
Fall is in full swing and winter is fast approaching. It’s planning time for gardeners! There are some amazing seed companies out there with catalogs, blogs and videos to help gardeners grow just about anything!
While I buy some things from my local big box retailers, others I can only get from seed companies that specialize in the latest and best the gardening world has to offer.
I just sent my order to Burpee Seed Co. for my most awaited new veggie! I tried to order last year but waited too long and it sold out! “On Deck” Hybrid corn was available for such a short time I totally missed the chance to try it! If you’re a “small garden” gardener or garden in containers you’re in luck with this one. Here’s the Burpee description:
Sweet Corn, 61-63 days. The first sweet corn bred for containers. Ever so tasty breakthrough bicolor variety is perfectly sized – 4-5 feet tall-to spend the summer on your deck, patio, or terrace, producing 2-3 delicious 7-8″ ears per stalk. This stunning new sweet corn is a revolution-one you can enjoy from the comfort of your patio. Simply plant 9 seeds per 24″ container and get ready to harvest in about 2 months 50 seeds for $5.95
These photos are from my 2013 catalog while I wait for my new 2014. I’ve been reading Burpee catalogs cover to cover since the 80’s! And now, with their online site you can access videos that teach you everything you need to know about growing a great garden. Just this week I watched videos about planting garlic, preparing raised beds, and planting seeds….
While there are many great seed companies (And I’ll cover more soon) I wanted to start with Burpee because I’ve used them the longest and I am most familiar with all the awesomeness they have to offer!
Grab a cup of coffee, settle in a comfy chair with your laptop or ipad and have some fun dreaming about next year’s garden and watching some videos to update your garden education! I just did and, oh wow,… there are new sunflowers available….got my corn ordered…I need to try a new zucchini this year…I’ve never seen those tomatoes…flowers, flowers, more flowers, OH MY! Enjoy!
