A few weeks ago we drove through the Point Reyes National seashore but ran out of time before we got out to the lighthouse. This past weekend we drove back with friends to check it out….so worth the trip!
If, like me, you prefer the view from above, you can have fun photographing the amazing wave formation along the coast at the base of the hill:
See the cool “hole” created by the waves to the right of the left rock…that only happened once in the half hour or so I photographed…love it! Walking to and from the lighthouse point you can stop by the small visitors center.
It’s a long drive out to the lighthouse from Santa Rosa, but we stopped both times to pick up a sandwich at the Market in Point Reyes Station, sat in the sun to eat, walked through Toby’s Feed Store again ( I love that shop!) and discovered a Home and Garden shop across the street that had a beautiful garden in the back. Definitely stop by this one when you are in Point Reyes Station! More about Pt. Reyes Station here.
It’s a beautiful drive out through the countryside in any weather. In fact I can’t wait to go out on an overcast day again, maybe with some awesome clouds….sunny days can be so boring in an image!
You can get more information on the lighthouse here.
The Lighthouse Visitor Center and the stairs leading down to the Lighthouse are only open on:
Fridays through Mondays from 10 am to 4:30 pm
Closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
The stairs to the lighthouse are closed when winds exceed 40 miles per hour (64 km/h).
